MP3s and Stuff

Record Industry, take note:  you will never stop people from trading music online, and don't get a hard on thinking you will make money from it either.  No matter how many lawsuits you file, no matter how many things you come up with, there is a Internet full of bright young folks who will figure out a way to get around your crap.

Getting The Music

Aimster is the tool of choice for the moment.  It works reasonably well, although it seems to crash more than I would like - and you can hunt down just about anything.  It's a lot like Naptser except that the scumbags at the RIAA haven't killed it - yet.

Listening to it

Winamp.  One word.  I don't care if Windows Media Player does this or that or any other little app does something cool; Winamp is solid as a rock, has a ton of plug-ins for cool visuals and other things, and was the original.  And it even asks you before it calls home and sends information to the mothership.

Get the standard version unless you have a need for Windows Media (WMA) files.  Skins are available at the WinAmp website, and also at DeviantArt.

UltraPlayer is a good alternative - a lot like WinAmp, it does all the same things and a few more, but it's got a slightly larger memory footprint.  Worth a try.  The skins for UltraPlayer are more flexible than WinAmp.
